Youth shot dead in Cuttack: Family places body outside PS, demands arrest of accused

Tension escalated outside Madhupatna Police Station on Thursday after family members of a youth who was shot dead in Cuttack City, placed his body outside the PS and staged a protest demanding justice.

The family members, along with relatives, neighbours and other locals, placed the body of deceased Soumyaranjan Jena in front of the police station, urging authorities to take immediate action. Even as the youth was shot dead on Wednesday at Nuapada locality of Friends Colony in Cuttack City, no arrests have been made so far.

Locals expressed strong anger as the police have not yet arrested the accused, even after several hours since the fatal incident. The victim’s family demanded swift arrest and strict punishment for those responsible for the crime.

The protest created tense moments outside the police station, with emotions running high and the situation remaining volatile for some time before police intervened. However, no comments were received from the local police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, Soumya was shot at during a feast with his friends, turning what was meant to be a social gathering into a scene of panic and tragedy.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts by doctors to save him, he succumbed to injuries. 

The identity of the attacker and the motive behind the firing are yet to be ascertained. Authorities are examining possible angles, including personal enmity or disputes, though no official confirmation has been made so far.
