The body of a young man, allegedly bludgeoned to death with stones, was recovered from the Khananagar area near the Jagannath Temple in Cuttack on Sunday, triggering panic and shock among local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Papu Das, a resident of Hazari Lane, who was reportedly engaged in the fish trade in the Khananagar area. His body was found lying near the temple premises, bearing visible injury marks.
Preliminary Findings Point to Brutal Assault
According to preliminary investigation, the victim appears to have been attacked repeatedly with stones, leading to fatal injuries. Police suspect that the assailant may have been under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants at the time of the crime, though the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Local residents informed the police that Papu had been living away from his family for several years and had limited contact with his relatives in Hazari Lane.
No Known Enmity, Say Relatives
Family members told investigators that Papu had no known personal enmity or rivalry with anyone. Police are now examining all possible angles, including personal disputes, his professional dealings, and his movements before the incident.

Badambadi police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched a detailed investigation. The murder weapon, believed to be the stone used in the assault, has been seized from the scene.
The Badambadi Inspector-in-Charge, along with a forensic team, conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene. Forensic experts are analysing injury patterns on the body to gather crucial leads and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Body Sent for Post-Mortem
The body has been sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the crime.
