Youth assaults teacher’s mother, resorts to blank firing over monetary dispute in Kendrapara

The Kendrapara Police have registered a criminal case after a youth allegedly fired a blank round at the Garapur village area of Kendrapara on Sunday night during an altercation with a local schoolteacher’s family over a monetary dispute.

According to a complaint filed at the Garapur police station, a local youth identified as Sibu allegedly confronted Asim Rautray around 8 pm and demanded money. The accused allegedly also insisted that he should be allowed to drink on the victim’s premises.

“The dispute stems from his demand to allow him a space on our plot for drinking activities,” said Asim.

The complaint states that when the demand was not met, the accused displayed a firearm and fired a blank round. 
The suspect reportedly closed in on the teacher after firing the blank shot. He then allegedly brandished the firearm against the teacher’s forehead.

Teacher’s Mother Injured, Says Complaint

The complaint further alleges that the accused assaulted members of the teacher’s family during the altercation. Asim Rautray’s mother sustained injuries while attempting to push away the firearm, sources said. She was treated for bleeding wounds following the incident. The accused then reportedly fled the spot.

"He called upon me and fired a blank shot. Upon noticing the fire, I ran back home. He then put the gun against my head. I grabbed the firearm and begged him to stop. Around that time, my mother came running. He then assaulted both of us,” Asim added.

Local residents said the dispute had occurred previously but had not been formally reported until the alleged firing.

Search for Accused Underway

Sources informed that the Garapur police have initiated an investigation and are attempting to trace the accused. Officers confirmed that a case has been registered based on witness accounts and the complaint.

However, no formal police statement has been issued yet regarding the weapon or charges. A probe is on to verify the nature of the firearm and the circumstances of the alleged firing.
