Land Dispute Behind the Attack
Preliminary findings suggest that the assault was triggered by a land-related conflict. The group reportedly took the law into their own hands, subjecting the youth to severe physical torture. Eyewitness accounts and video evidence circulating locally indicate that the victim was dragged across the road with a rope tied around him before being beaten by several men.
“Kamal Lochan Bhuyan, Purnachandra Bhuyan, Uma Shankar Bhuyan, Surendra Bhuyan, Tapas Parida and Sribasta Patra all attacked me. They tied me up and even beat my wife. They mercilessly dragged me for nearly 2 kilometres. I even have a video showing how they assaulted me. But despite this, when they dragged me to the police station, the police let them go,” alleged the victim Debashis Hati.
Police Vow Accountability
Authorities have assured that legal proceedings will be enforced rigorously. 'Whoever is involved will face action,' the Additional SP Debjyoti Das reiterated, emphasising that such acts of vigilantism will not be tolerated.
The case has raised serious concerns about rising brutality in land disputes. With the investigation underway, police have promised firm action to ensure justice for the victim and prevent such barbaric incidents in the future.
