Tied, dragged, & beaten up: Shocking attack on youth in Odisha

A young man was mercilessly tied, beaten, and left unconscious over a land dispute in the Parakhi area of Balasore district. According to initial investigation reports, the attack took place on December 3. 

The victim, identified as Debashish Hati of Telagadia, was allegedly tied with a rope, dragged, and beaten by a group of men over a long-standing land-related conflict. After assaulting him on the road, the miscreants reportedly paraded him through the village before dumping him in an unconscious state near the Parakhi pond area.

Despite three days having passed since the incident, police have yet to arrest the accused individuals, triggering concerns among locals and family members.

A case has been registered at Balasore Sadar Police Station, and a probe is underway. Speaking to the media, the Additional SP of Balasore assured that strict action will be taken against all involved, adding that the role of the local police during and after the incident will also be examined.

“Necessary action will be taken against all the accused as per the law. A case has already been registered. It is the first step to justice. We will see if there is any negligence,” informed Debjyoti Das, Additional SP, Balasore.

The victim, who sustained severe injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. His condition continues to remain critical, officials said.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with residents demanding immediate arrests and a fair investigation into the assault.
