The case of Sejal John, an Odia girl who recently admitted to fabricating allegations of abuse and forced religious conversion against her adoptive mother in the United States, has taken a new turn after an emotional letter written by her adoptive mother surfaced online. The letter, dated November 21, has renewed public discussion even as Sejal continues counselling to reassess her decisions following the controversy.

According to reports, Sejal’s adoptive mother, who continues to live in the US with Sejal’s adoptive brother, expressed profound grief over Sejal’s departure and the fallout from the fabricated claims.

Mother’s Letter Expresses Deep Pain

In the letter, the adoptive mother writes that her “heart is tearing apart in sorrow” after seeing Sejal leave. She says that everything she did was “out of love and for her good,” adding that Sejal had “brought a bad name” to her, for which she sought forgiveness.

Despite the hurt, she wrote that Sejal would “always remain in a corner of her heart” as her daughter. The emotional nature of the letter indicates a strong bond between them, as per reports.

Sejal Undergoing Counselling; Uncertainty Over Future

Reports say Sejal is currently attending regular counselling sessions to reflect on her actions and determine her future. If she chooses, she can still return to the United States to live with her adoptive mother.

However, it remains unclear whether the adoptive mother, who reportedly lost her job because of the viral allegations, would be willing to accept her back.

Legally, Sejal can return to the U.S, though authorities may consider certain actions since the matter involved false claims impacting two governments.

Questions have also emerged about Sejal’s relationship with Amar, the youth she wished to reunite with in Odisha. Amar has allegedly failed to provide proof of being 21 years old and could not furnish details of any income source to support himself or Sejal.

Background: Viral Video Later Admitted to Be False

Sejal, also known as Puja, was adopted by an American couple in 2018. Recently, she released a video alleging torture, forced conversion, lack of visa support, and household exploitation. She appealed to Odisha CM Mohan Majhi for help.

Her claims sparked widespread concern, given her earlier life story of being rescued as a missing child, staying in shelters in Nilagiri and Naharankanta, and later being adopted abroad.

After arriving in Bhubaneswar following official intervention, Sejal admitted the allegations were fabricated. She confessed she created the video to force her return to Odisha to reunite with Amar, a childhood friend she reconnected with through social media while in Class 12.
