Sejal Jan, an Odia girl living in the United States, has admitted to fabricating a viral video that accused her adoptive mother of physical abuse and forced religious conversion. The incident came to light at Bhubaneswar Airport, where Sejal confessed that she created the false narrative simply to return to Odisha and reunite with her childhood friend and lover, Amar, who lives in Balasore.
Childhood Bond Rekindled Across Continents
Sejal had moved to America at a young age after being adopted. Though she built a new life abroad, her connection with Amar was revived years later through social media while she was in the 12th grade. Their bond deepened quickly, and Sejal began longing to return to Odisha to be with him, a desire she feared expressing openly to her adoptive family.

The Viral Video that Triggered International Concern
In desperation, Sejal recorded a video alleging mental torture, physical harassment and pressure to convert religion. The clip spread rapidly online, capturing public sympathy. Amar, moved by her supposed plight, appealed repeatedly to the state government and central authorities to bring her back. Officials, taking the matter seriously, initiated steps to facilitate her return.
Truth Revealed at Bhubaneswar Airport
Upon landing in Bhubaneswar, Sejal broke down and admitted that none of the allegations were true. She revealed she had fabricated the entire story only to come back to Odisha and live with Amar. The false claims have reportedly placed her adoptive mother in legal difficulty in the US.
“Everything I said in that video was untrue. My mother neither forced me nor tortured me. I lied only because I wanted to return to Odisha and live life on my own terms. I deeply regret making false allegations against her. I request Chief Minister Mohan Majhi to please spare my mother and extend support to her, as she is now facing unnecessary trouble. I simply wanted to come back to Odisha soon because I did not like living in America. Please do not blame my mother, she has done nothing wrong. She only warned me that Amar might not be a good person, but I believed he was,” said Sejal Jan, the Odia girl who returned from America.
Conclusion
What began as a love-driven impulse escalated into an international controversy. While Sejal hopes to begin a new life with Amar, the consequences of her actions continue to ripple, especially as Amar has yet to issue any response to her revelations.
