Student unrest erupts again at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar

Student unrest has once again surfaced at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, with students of the Department of Teacher Education staging a protest in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Tuesday.

As per reports, the agitating students raised serious allegations against the Head of the Department (HoD), accusing him of administrative arbitrariness.

As per the allegations of the protesting students, the HoD has been indulging in arbitrary functioning, subjecting students to mental harassment, and creating persistent academic problems within the department. They have also alleged irregularities in the recruitment of faculty members, claiming a lack of transparency and fairness in the appointment process.

The students demanded immediate intervention by the university authorities and strict action against the HoD.

The students further stated that they had repeatedly brought these concerns to the notice of the Vice-Chancellor over the past one and a half years. However, despite several representations, no concrete steps were taken to resolve the matter, forcing them to resort to protest.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the university authorities regarding the allegations or the students’ demands.
