Speeding truck kills man, locals block Khordha-Bolangir NH

A person was killed after being hit by a speeding Hyva truck near Hatadwara village on the Khordha-Bolangir National Highway on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Nayak, a resident of Hatadwara village.

According to reports, Gobinda was sitting by the roadside when a Hyva truck, allegedly moving at high speed, lost control and rammed into him. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot.

Following the incident, local residents detained the driver of the truck and handed him over to the police. Angry over the fatal accident, villagers staged a road blockade on the national highway, demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family and strict action against the erring driver.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to pacify the protesters. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and assured the locals of appropriate action as per the law.

Traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for some time due to the road blockade, causing inconvenience to commuters.
