Six months after marriage, woman ‘strangles’ husband to death in Odisha

In a gruesome incident reported from Nayagarh district, a woman allegedly strangled her husband to death at Puania village under Khalisahi panchayat, within the jurisdiction of Khandapada police station on Saturday. The incident has sent shockwaves in the local area.

According to preliminary information, the accused woman allegedly killed her husband while he was asleep. The deceased has been identified as Alok Mahapatra, a resident of Puania village. Sources said the couple had been married for around six months, and their marriage had taken place in the Jatni police station area.

Family members of the deceased alleged that the couple had frequent arguments over various domestic issues. Tensions between the husband and wife were reportedly escalating in recent days, creating an atmosphere of discord in the household. Due to frequent fights, the woman is alleged to have strangled her husband late at Saturday night, leading to his death.

The matter came to light after family members and neighbours noticed the man lying unresponsive. Following the information, Khandapada police rushed to the spot, detained the woman, and began questioning her in connection with the incident.
