At a time when police officers are often seen maintaining strict order during festivals, one cop from Odisha has struck a completely different note, quite literally. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nilamadhab Panda of Salepur police station has become the talk of the town after a video of him singing at a Durga idol immersion procession went viral.
During the immersion celebrations on Monday evening in Salepur, ASI Panda joined the crowd in singing the popular Odia song ‘Tamma Tamma’, blending seamlessly with the festive spirit. What made the moment even more special was how he balanced his duties while keeping a watchful eye on crowd discipline even as he sang with the people.
Spectators were delighted to see a police officer participating with such enthusiasm, turning what is usually a tense crowd-control assignment into a heartwarming scene of unity. Videos of the singing cop have been widely shared on social media, earning him praise for his cheerful approach to community policing.

For many, ASI Panda’s gesture symbolised the softer side of the police force, one that connects with the people through warmth, music, and mutual respect, rather than authority alone.
