According to sources, the flag march was carried the supervision of senior police officials. Police and security personnel patrolled through the affected localities as a show of strength and to ensure that no further untoward incidents occur.
Police officials said the march aimed to send a strong message that law and order would be strictly maintained and any attempt to disturb peace would be dealt with firmly.
“The situation is normal now. The incident is being properly investigated, but I urge people not to believe any rumours. If you have come across any rumours contact your police station IIC or ACP. Separate arrangements will be made for the bandh called for tomorrow,” said Prakash Chandra Pal, DCP (headquarters).
“The flag march is being carried out across various police limits. People are not in panic, and they are cooperative. We are with them,” the senior police officer said.
The Commissionerate Police have also assured that those involved in the earlier clash will face strict legal action following a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed sharp outrage over the violence. Holding the district administration and police responsible for the incident, the organisation has called for a Cuttack bandh on Monday.
