Panic gripped Badabahadalpur village under Dagarapada Panchayat in Balasore district after a large python was spotted near a residential house on Sunday. The snake was spotted lurking close to the house of local resident Shantilata Behera, prompting villagers to alert a snake rescuer.
Seven-Foot-Long Snake Rescued
Responding to the call, experienced snake rescuer Sheikh Mirza arrived at the spot and carried out the rescue operation. The python, measuring approximately seven feet in length, was carefully captured, ensuring the safety of both residents and the reptile.
Villagers watched the operation from a safe distance as the rescuer handled the situation calmly and professionally.
“When I went to collect firewood, I noticed the snake at the same spot for four to five days. I informed others, but they did not believe me at first. Today, the snake was still there, following which we contacted the Forest Department team, who rescued the giant snake. It was about seven feet long,” said Shantilata Behera, the woman who first spotted the snake.

Released into Natural Habitat
After the successful rescue, the python was transported and released into the Devagiri hills, its natural habitat, to ensure it could return safely to the wild without posing any threat to human habitation. The timely intervention by the snake rescuer helped avert panic and potential danger in the village.
