A senior clerk was suspended after being found in an intoxicated state during office hours at the District Watershed Project office in Subarnapur district on Thursday. The incident came to light when District Collector Nruparaj Sahu made a surprise visit to the office today.
The accused clerk has been identified as Kalu Mirdha.
During his inspection, the District Collector found the senior clerk lying on the office table with his legs on the desk, completely unconscious due to alcohol consumption. The shocking sight raised serious concerns about discipline and professionalism among office staff.
Immediately upon witnessing the scene, the District Collector ordered the suspension of Kalu Mirdha from his duties. Officials present at the office noted that such behaviour was entirely unacceptable and undermined the credibility and efficiency of government services.

“I was here on a surprise visit and saw the senior clerk sleeping with his legs on the table. Initially, I thought he was sick. But later I came to know that he was drunk. So, I suspended him on the spot,” Collector Nrupraj told OTV.
The Subarnapur administration has emphasised that misconduct during official hours will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against employees found violating office discipline.
The swift decision by the District Collector is seen as a warning to other staff members and a step towards maintaining transparency and accountability in public offices.
