The implementation of pollution control measures in Balasore has come under scrutiny after alleged violations were reported from the Collector’s office itself on Tuesday, despite strict restrictions being imposed across the district.
The Balasore district administration imposed strict pollution control measures from yesterday. As part of the curbs, all construction activities were ordered to remain suspended between 6 pm and 10 am across the district. The measures were aimed at reducing dust and improving air quality in the region.
Additional directives included sprinkling water three times a day on major city roads and national highways, banning the entry of heavy vehicles into the city, prohibiting the burning of waste in open areas and restricting cooking using coal. Trucks transporting major and minor minerals were also instructed to mandatorily cover their loads.

Alleged Violation at the Collector’s Office
Despite these clear instructions, questions have been raised after construction-related activity was allegedly found continuing at the Balasore Collector’s office itself. During the restricted hours, demolition work of an old structure was reportedly underway within the Collector’s office premises, seemingly flouting the very orders issued by the district administration.
The situation has drawn criticism, as the curbs were meant to be enforced uniformly across the district. The continuation of demolition work at the administrative headquarters has triggered concerns over selective enforcement of rules.
Questions Over Enforcement and Accountability
While the restrictions were imposed in the interest of public health and environmental safety, the alleged violation at the Collector’s office has sparked questions about compliance and accountability within the administration.
As pollution control measures remain in force across Balasore, the incident has highlighted the need for strict adherence to regulations at all levels, including government offices, to ensure that the purpose of the curbs is not undermined and public trust is maintained.
