Rourkela crime crackdown: Dacoit arrested with deadly weapons stockpile Photograph: (OTV)
Rourkela police have arrested a notorious dacoit from the Brahmanitarang police station area, recovering five country-made guns and 35 swords from his possession. The seizure has raised serious questions about the source of the weapons and the motive behind stockpiling such a large arsenal.
According to SP Nitesh Wadhwani, Rourkela Police have been conducting a special operation targeting illegal arms and hardened criminals for the past two weeks. The arrested accused is reportedly involved in over 21 criminal cases. Intelligence inputs suggested that he continued engaging in criminal activities and was actively assisting other offenders.
Arms Trafficking Investigation Underway
Police confirmed that the seized firearms had been sourced from outside the state and were being sold across different parts of the country. So far this year, Rourkela police have arrested 60 individuals linked to illegal weapons, recovering arms from 46 of them. The accused had been operating in the RSP (Rourkela Steel Plant) area before his arrest.
Ongoing Probe and Security Measures
Investigators are now working to identify whether more individuals are associated with the accused’s arms network. Police have also intensified night patrolling in sensitive zones to curb the flow of illegal firearms and enhance public safety.
Officials described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks in the region. Police have urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity to help maintain law and order.
