Following a brief dry spell across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a change in weather conditions from October 19, with isolated light-to-moderate rain and thunderstorms expected in parts of the southern and coastal districts.

The Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar predicted that dry weather would prevail till Saturday before a fresh spell of isolated rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds begins in select pockets.

Two-Day Dry Window Before Rain Returns

According to the IMD, dry conditions will prevail across Odisha till the morning of October 19. From Sunday onward, one or two places in Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Koraput districts are likely to witness light-to-moderate rain or thunderstorm activity, while the rest of the State will remain dry.

Similar isolated activity may continue through October 20 and 21, mainly confined to southern Odisha and nearby coastal areas.

Yellow Alerts for Eight Districts

The IMD has placed Yellow (Be Aware) warnings for October 19 and 20 in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

The warning mentions the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Regional Weather Pattern

The district-wise forecast released by IMD Bhubaneswar shows that most northern and interior districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack, will continue to see dry weather for at least two more days.

No warnings have been issued for fishermen for the next five days.
