Police complaint filed against BJD leader Bobby Das, MLA Adhiraj Panigrahi in Nuapada assault case

A political controversy erupted in Nuapada district on Friday after a youth lodged a written complaint against senior BJD leader Bobby Das, aka Pranab Prakash Das and Khariar MLA Adhiraj Mohan Panigrahi, accusing them of physical assault and verbal abuse.

The FIR, lodged at Komna Police Station, alleges that the youth was called to the farmhouse of BJD leader Manoj Mishra, where he was beaten up by Bobby Das and others. In his written statement, the complainant claims he was also subjected to obscene language and threats, and was questioned over his alleged association with the BJP.

The youth further stated that he could have lost his life had the police not rescued him in time. He has sought a fair investigation into the accusations and justice for him, demanding legal action against the accused leaders.

However, no response has been received so far from either Bobby Das or MLA Panigrahi regarding the allegations. Police have begun a preliminary probe into the incident.

“I lodged an FIR today against Bobby Das, Adhiraj Panigrahi, and Manoj Mishra. Yesterday at around 2.00 PM, Bobby Das and Adhiraj Panigrahi had called me through another mobile number and asked me to come to the (BJD organisational district) general secretary Manoj Mishra’s farmhouse,” the victim youth, Jitu Adbang, said to mediapersons.

“After I reached there (the farmhouse), Bobby Das came to me and held my hand tightly. He asked me, ‘you were previously working for BJD, and why are you with the BJP now?’. He held my shirt collar and warned me with dire consequences, saying ‘If you will not work for BJD, you will be eliminated forever’. He even threatened not to spare my family members. They beat me and strangled my throat,” the complainant expressed.

“Their (Das and Panigrahi’s) goons were also present there (at the farmhouse). Komna IIC rescued me. Had he not reached in time, I would have been killed,” the youth alleged.

No comments were received from Bobby Das and Adhiraj Panigrahi in this regard.
