Pitabas Panda murder probe: Orissa HC seeks explanation from Berhampur SP over public remarks on sub judice matter

The Orissa High Court on Friday expressed displeasure with Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M for making public comments related to an election case that is currently sub judice. 

As per reports, the Court has sought an explanation from the SP, asking why he made such remarks while the matter was still under judicial consideration.

The High Court has directed the SP to submit his response by November 7, explaining why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him. The case is also scheduled for its next hearing on the same date.

During the disclosure of the Pitabas Panda murder case, SP Srabana Vivek M had reportedly stated that after the 2024 General Elections, one Pintu Dash had filed a petition against Berhampur MLA K Anil Kumar. Had the Berhampur Assembly election been declared invalid, a by-election would have been held, and Bikram Panda would have contested in it.

According to the SP’s statement, Bikram Panda had allegedly financed Pintu’s petition, which he submitted it through Manoj Panda. The SP further mentioned that there was a common link between Bikram Panda and Shiba Shankar Das in connection with the election petition filed against MLA K Anil Kumar.
