Even as the investigation into senior advocate and BJP leader Pitabas Panda murder case gathers momentum, two prime accused Uma Bisoyi and Kurupati Bhuyan, the alleged shooter remain out of the police net.
The case, which has sent shockwaves across Berhampur, continues to unfold with new leads emerging each day.
According to police sources, while mastermind BJD leader Bikram Panda and his close associate Pintu Das have already been arrested, the crucial links to the actual execution of the murder are yet to be established as Kurupati, believed to have pulled the trigger, remains absconding.
Investigators suspect that Uma Bisoyi, who allegedly played a key role in negotiating and arranging the deal with the shooter, is also on the run. Her role is considered critical to unraveling the financial and operational conspiracy behind the killing.
In their bid to trace the fugitives, police have been conducting raids across several locations, including parts of Berhampur and nearby districts, but the accused have so far managed to stay ahead of law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the police have detained two corporators from Berhampur for questioning after preliminary evidence suggested that they might have connections with the accused or knowledge about their whereabouts.
In a related development, Sudarshan Jena, a business associate of prime accused Bikram Panda, has also been detained for interrogation. Sources said he is being questioned regarding the financial transactions and the possible motive behind the crime.
