Former Odisha MLA Bikram Panda was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital on Sunday after he complained of severe abdominal pain while lodged at Berhampur Jail, officials said. He was shifted from the jail to the hospital under tight security arrangements for medical treatment.
Bikram Panda is currently in judicial custody in connection with the murder of advocate Pitabas Panda.
Medical Condition And Hospital Referral
According to reports, Panda suffers from piles and complained of pain in his lower abdomen. He was initially provided treatment inside the jail before being referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for further medical evaluation.
He was first admitted to the medicine ward, where doctors reportedly advised that he may require surgical intervention. Subsequently, he was shifted to the surgery ward, where an ultrasound examination was recommended as part of the diagnostic process.
At the time of filing this report, Panda was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Jail authorities have reportedly instructed hospital officials to ensure that all necessary medical care is provided to him.
Official sources said Panda had gall bladder stones at the time of his arrest and also suffers from high blood pressure, along with other health-related ailments.
Panda Claims Political Vendetta
Reacting to the developments, Bikram Panda alleged that he has been falsely implicated in the case due to political rivalry.
“I have been falsely implicated. I am innocent and have been deliberately framed without any justification. There is an attempt to defame me and the BJD, and all this is being done with political motives. I have been facing difficulties even inside the jail for the past four months. I have complete faith in the judiciary, and I am confident that I will get justice,” Panda said.
