In a shocking incident that has exposed severe negligence in healthcare services, a patient at Udala Medical in Mayurbhanj district was allegedly administered blood, despite not requiring a transfusion on Monday. The error has left the patient in critical condition and sparked outrage among family members and locals.
According to reports, Parbati Bindhani from Dimagadia village under Udala police limits was admitted to the hospital with a high fever. On Monday evening, a nurse on duty in the Medicine Department reportedly entered the ward and began transfusing blood to Parbati without any medical requirement or proper verification.
Family members repeatedly informed the staff that Parbati did not need blood, but their objections were ignored. Shortly after the transfusion began, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Alarmed relatives then confronted the nurse, after which the blood unit was removed.
It has been alleged that the blood was intended for another patient, Parbati Kuarn, who was admitted to Ward No. 3 of the same hospital. Due to what appears to be reckless handling and carelessness by the staff, the blood was mistakenly administered to the wrong patient.
“Despite saying she does not need a blood transfusion, they administered blood forcibly. My daughter’s condition is not well, said the mother of the patient.
Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and no action has been taken against the responsible personnel.

The incident has triggered serious concerns about patient safety, accountability, and the management practices at Udala Medical.
