In a heartbreaking incident, OTV’s Rairakhol correspondent Ramakant Mahanand lost his life in a road accident near Naktideul in Sambalpur on Monday.

The news of his demise was formally confirmed by the Superintendent of VIMSAR, plunging the region as well as the journalistic fraternity across Odisha into deep grief.

According to reports, Ramakant was on his way to Naktideul to cover a grievance-related programme of the Collector when the tragedy struck. His motorcycle reportedly collided with a culvert, leading to severe injuries. Eyewitnesses and locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he received preliminary treatment. Considering the critical nature of his injuries, he was later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, for advanced medical care. Despite the doctors’ persistent efforts to save him, Ramakant succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The untimely demise of Ramakant has cast a pall of gloom across the region. Colleagues, fellow reporters, and local residents remember him as a dedicated professional, deeply committed to his work.
