OTV correspondent death: Family alleges deliberate murder

The unfortunate demise of OTV’s Rairakhol correspondent Ramakanta Mahananda took a serious turn after his elder brother, Umakanta Mahananda, filed a written complaint with Naktideul Police Station in Sambalpur district. He claimed that Ramakanta’s death, reported as a road accident on Monday morning, was in fact an intentional killing carried out by miscreants due to his journalistic work.

Family Alleges Murder, Not Accident

In his written complaint, Umakanta stated that his younger brother Ramakanta left home around 9:30 am to gather news near Naktideul. According to the allegation, unidentified miscreants murdered him and then deliberately staged the scene to make it appear as a road accident before fleeing.

Umakanta has asserted that Ramakanta had been consistently reporting on ganja trafficking and various corruption-related activities in the region. Due to these exposures, the family suspects that anti-social elements targeted him intentionally to silence his work.

Complaint Filed Seeking Proper Investigation

The family has urged the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and take strong action against those responsible for the alleged murder. They believe the staged accident was a strategy to divert attention from a planned crime.

Umakanta’s petition emphasises that a detailed probe is necessary to uncover the truth behind the suspicious circumstances leading to Ramakanta’s death.

Police Yet to Respond

So far, there has been no official response from Naktideul Police regarding the allegations or the progress of the investigation.

As the grieving family demands justice, the case has raised deep concerns about the safety of journalists reporting on criminal networks. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Ramakanta’s death was an accident or a calculated act of silencing a reporter’s voice.
