Odisha worker dies in Kerala factory; family seeks Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda’s help to get back body

Tragedy struck a family in Kendrapara district after an Odia worker lost his life in an accident at his workplace in Kerala. The deceased, identified as Sukanta Mallik from Talachua under Marine Police limits, was employed at a plywood factory.

According to sources, on October 30, Sukanta was working when a large plywood stack suddenly fell on him, leaving him trapped underneath. He reportedly died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Following the incident, the private company authorities have allegedly not taken any steps to transport his mortal remains back to Odisha. The grieving family, struggling to bring the body home, has appealed to BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda for help.

They have also approached district administration officials, urging immediate intervention to ensure the repatriation of the body and justice for the deceased worker.

The family’s plea highlights the ongoing plight of migrant Odia labourers in other states, who often face workplace hazards and limited support during such tragedies.

“I came to know about the fatal mishap at around 12 noon, and perhaps, the incident occurred at around 10.00 AM yesterday. I seek justice. I want the return of my husband’s body and monetary assistance from the company,” said the wife of the deceased, Sabita Mallik.

“I have three children. How will they survive? The company does not believe my situation. I appeal to the MP to make necessary arrangements for the return of the body. I also appeal to him to provide financial assistance,” the woman added.
