Odisha woman stabbed to death by one-sided lover three days before her marriage

A young woman was allegedly murdered just three days before her wedding in an incident linked to a one-sided love affair in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

The crime has occurred on January 9, 2026, (Friday evening) in Gobira Girjatola slum under Kuanrmunda outpost of Biramitrapur police limits, police sources said on Sunday.

According to the official sources, the deceased has been identified as Sikha Sapna Kullu of Gobira village. She had stepped out of her parents’ house on the intervening evening for some personal work.

About an hour later, her family received a phone call informing them that she was lying in a pool of blood near an Anganwadi centre. She was rushed first to Kuanrmunda and then shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital, where doctors declared her ‘dead’.

The family lodged a murder complaint at Biramitrapur police station, alleging that Mukesh Kullu of Karkata village under Bisra police limits had opposed Sikha’s upcoming marriage scheduled for the 12th of this month (tomorrow, Monday).

Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused today and forwarded him to court.

A scientific team reached the spot and conducted a detailed probe. Police have confirmed the case to be a murder stemming from a one-sided love affair, and further legal action is underway.

“We do not know exactly what sort of relationship they had. Her marriage was scheduled to be solemnised on January 12, 2026, Monday. However, such an incident occurred, which we had never thought of,” Kiran Kullu, a relative of the deceased, said.

“She has been murdered. We all are in deep grief. A moment of happiness has turned into utter agony,” the victim’s relative expressed.
