A woman home guard posted at Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Odisha's Bhubaneswar died after allegedly consuming poison. The incident took place at an apartment in Mandap Basti under the Chandrasekharpur area.
The deceased has been identified as Sujata. As per reports, she was rushed to Capital Hospital on Wednesday night and later shifted to a private hospital, where she passed away while undergoing treatment.
Family members alleged that Sujata took the extreme step due to mental distress. Her husband passed away around seven months ago, following which she reportedly became depressed and suffered from sleeping disorders.
Family members stated that she often cried throughout the night and had attempted to take her life multiple times after her husband’s death. They said Sujata was unable to cope with her loss while shouldering the entire responsibility of her family.
Family Dependent On Her
Sujata was reportedly the only earning member of her family. She is survived by her mother-in-law, a son, and a daughter. Her son is said to be suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Family members stated that despite following medical advice, including deleting her husband’s photographs as suggested by a psychiatrist, her mental condition remained unchanged.
Police Begin Probe Into Circumstances
As per reports, the Chandrasekharpur IIC stated that her mental distress was not reflected during her duty hours. Based on the family’s complaint, police registered a case of unnatural death. Her body was seized for post-mortem and later handed over to the family after the procedure.
Support Sought For Her Children
According to reports, her colleagues said they had tried to counsel her on several occasions.
