Duty ends in tragedy: Home Guard loses life in fatal road mishap in Odisha’s Balasore

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a Home Guard in Balasore’s Soro early Friday morning after he was hit by a moving container near College Chhak on National Highway No. 16.
The deceased has been identified as Sushanta Sethi, a resident of Baradeuli village in Balasore district. 

According to reports, Sethi had just completed his duty at the Soro Police Station and was heading towards Soro College Chhak to have tea when the incident occurred. 

Eyewitnesses said his motorcycle handle reportedly collided with a passing container, resulting in a severe impact that threw him onto the road. The force of the collision was so intense that he died instantly on the spot.

Soon after the incident, Soro Police rushed to the location and took control of the situation. The container involved in the accident was seized, and the driver was detained for questioning. 

The victim’s body was recovered and sent to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) for post-mortem examination.

Police officials suspect that a miscalculation while overtaking or a sudden imbalance in the motorcycle might have led to the fatal collision. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

The untimely death of the Home Guard has cast a pall of gloom over the locality, with colleagues and residents mourning the loss of a dedicated officer known for his disciplined service and commitment to duty.
