In a remarkable act of humanity, a woman from the remote Khariguma village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district has given a new lease of life to others through organ donation.

The woman, identified as Avala Nayak, was declared brain dead following a tragic road accident.

According to reports, Avala met with a severe accident last Sunday while crossing the road and suffered critical head injuries. She was first admitted to Chandragiri hospital before being shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for further treatment.

As her condition worsened, she was referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and subsequently to a private medical facility. Despite doctors’ best efforts, Avala was declared brain dead. In an extraordinary display of compassion, her family decided to donate her kidneys and liver to help save other lives.

After her organs were donated, her body was brought back to her native village, where Mohana Police paid her a Guard of Honour in recognition of her selfless act.

This is reportedly the first organ donation case from the remote region of Gajapati district. Speaking with pride, the family said, “Organs are God’s gift, and we have shared His blessings with others.”

Avala’s noble gesture has inspired many across the district, serving as a powerful reminder that even in death, one can give the gift of life.
