Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur announced that the statewide drive would begin with the New Year and continue with heightened vigilance, particularly during National Road Safety Month in January.

Addressing road safety and pollution compliance, Thakur said enforcement teams, including Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs), have been instructed to strictly act against violations related to traffic rules, safety norms and mandatory documentation. He urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent accidents and ensure smoother traffic movement.

“Drivers must follow road safety rules. This will help prevent accidents. Strict action will be taken against those violating motor vehicle laws,” the Transport Commissioner said.

Focus On Compliance And PUC Certification

Sources reported that a major focus of the upcoming enforcement drive will be Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification.

The Transport Department has already held meetings with petrol pump owners and fuel dealers across the state, directing them to prominently display information related to PUC certificates at their outlets.

Petrol pump operators have been asked to put up banners and notices advising motorists to obtain valid PUC certificates. According to reports, the objective is to ensure greater awareness and compliance before enforcement becomes more stringent.

“There is still time. Vehicle owners should get their PUC certificates done immediately,” Thakur said, stressing that motorists should not wait until checks begin in full force.

He further stated that discussions have been held with oil marketing companies and petrol dealers to ensure cooperation at the ground level. “Those who do not have a valid pollution certificate will not get fuel. This decision has been taken after meetings with petrol dealers and oil companies. Every outlet will display banners advising riders about PUCC compliance,” he said.

National Road Safety Month To See Tighter Checks

The Transport Commissioner said vehicle checks would become more frequent during National Road Safety Month, which will be observed from January 1 to January 31.

During this period, enforcement teams will conduct intensified inspections across urban and rural areas. It is worth noting that no specific relaxation or grace period has been announced once the drive begins, with sources indicating that enforcement from January 1 will be uniform across the state.
