With cyber offences rising steadily across the State, the SP Sampat personally visited his neighbourhoods, shops, and marketplaces, explaining how people can protect themselves from online fraudsters.
The campaign began with a bicycle rally from Maa Pendrani Temple and covered all wards, spreading practical guidance on avoiding cybercriminal traps and encouraging prompt reporting to local police.
Residents were informed to immediately call the 1930 helpline in case they fall victim to any online scams.
Students, local citizens, and police personnel actively participated in the initiative, making it a collaborative effort to build cyber awareness in the community and to promote safe online practices.
By taking this hands-on approach, the SP has combined outreach and engagement to tackle cyber threats effectively.
“As you all know, the scale at which cybercrime has been rising in the State and across the country is alarming. Odisha Police have started a massive public awareness campaign to curb cyber fraud. A cyclothon was previously held in Nabarangpur town a few days ago, and today we conducted a cycle rally in Umerkote,” the SP expressed.
“A large number of people are participating, and we are handing over awareness posters to the residents. We are sharing the police contact number ‘1930’ to fight against cybercrime. Since cybercriminals have been operating from outside the State, it is difficult to crack them down. Hence, prevention is better than staying safe,” SP Sampat stated.
“People should cultivate safe online practices,” the senior cop added.
