Shock and outrage have gripped Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district after two minor girls were allegedly gangraped while returning home after enjoying an ‘opera’ performance with their friends. The bone-chilling incident has been reported from the Rasgobindpur police station area.
According to police sources, the two minor rape survivors had been to watch a local 'opera' along with two other male friends. After enjoying the night out, they were all returning home when a group of five men chased them on motorcycles.
The assailants allegedly assaulted the girls’ friend and dragged the two minors into an isolated place where they took turns on them.
Upon receiving the complaint, Rasgobindpur Police launched an investigation and swiftly detained three youths believed to be involved in the heinous act. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused.

“An opera performance was underway at Malaya Bazaar. The rape survivor had gone to witness the opera with her friend and two other male friends. After watching the opera, they were returning home at around 1PM at night. Taking advantage of the night, five accused chased the girls and beat up their male friends. Later, they took the girls to an isolated place and sexually assaulted them,” informed Dilip Gochayat, ACP, Mayurbhanj.
“We have registered a case of gang-rape and have detained two of the accused yesterday night. The identity of the other three accused is being ascertained. Continuous raids are underway, and the other three accused will be arrested soon. Strict action will be taken against them,” he added.
