Minor girl ‘gangraped by relatives’ in Odisha’s Puri on Kali Puja immersion night

An alleged case of gangrape was reported on Friday from Chandanpur police limits in Puri district, where a minor girl was sexually assaulted by her relatives. Although the incident occurred nearly two days ago, it came to the fore after an FIR was lodged by the victim.

According to police sources, the incident took place on the night of Kali Puja immersion, when the accused allegedly entered the victim’s house and committed the crime. The survivor has accused her relative uncle, and cousin of being involved in the assault.

Following the complaint, Chandanpur Police swiftly detained the two accused and initiated a detailed investigation. The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Chandanpur Police Station confirmed that the accused will be subjected to medical examination as part of the probe.

Police officials have assured that the matter is being handled with utmost sensitivity and that further action will be taken based on medical and forensic evidence.

The disturbing incident has triggered widespread outrage in the locality, with demands for strict punishment of the culprits.

“A minor girl from Biranarasinghpur Bhoisahi (south) has lodged an FIR alleging that she was gangraped by her relative brother and uncle on the night of Kali Puja immersion, when she was alone at home,” Chandanpur IIC, Bhuban Samantaray, said.

“We have detained the two persons in connection with the case. They are being questioned to gather more information. Medical examination will be conducted, and they will be produced before the child welfare committee (CWC). Services of a scientific team have been sought in this regard,” the Chandanpur IIC stated.
