In a major step towards enforcing road safety and traffic discipline, the State Transport Authority (STA) on Friday directed all RTOs across Odisha to take strict action against vehicle owners who habitually violate traffic rules.

As part of this drive, such violators may face cancellation of their vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC).

The directive came after a high-level meeting chaired by the Transport Commissioner, where the STA emphasized zero tolerance towards repeat offenders of the Motor Vehicles Act. RTOs have now been instructed to prepare a detailed list of habitual violators and begin sending them official notices, warning of possible RC cancellation.

To support this enforcement initiative, dedicated help desks are being set up at every RTO office to assist the public with the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme and pending fine payments.

The move comes amid growing concerns over road safety in the state, with authorities aiming to reduce accidents by ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws.

Officials have clarified that non-payment of pending dues or repeated violations will no longer be ignored, and strong action, including RC cancellation and legal proceedings, may follow.
