In a recent development, the hearing on the bail applications of nine accused persons, including Muna Mohanty, in the Odisha Police sub-inspector recruitment scam case was deferred by the court on Thursday. The matter will now be taken up for further hearing on February 16.
Muna Mohanty had moved the court seeking interim bail on health grounds. While considering the plea, the court did not grant interim relief and instead directed the jail authorities to ensure that Mohanty is provided with appropriate and adequate medical treatment during his incarceration.
The court also issued directions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to apprise it of the current status of the investigation in the case. The agency has been asked to place on record details of the progress made so far, as the probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities continues.
CBI intensifies probe into recruitment scam
Meanwhile, the CBI has stepped up its investigation into the Odisha Police sub-inspector recruitment examination scam. On January 13, the agency began questioning aspiring candidates as part of its efforts to uncover the modus operandi of the alleged scam and identify all those involved.
Several aspirants have already appeared before investigators to present their accounts. The CBI has been recording statements to gather first-hand information and assess the extent of the alleged irregularities linked to the recruitment process. Prior to this phase, the agency had interrogated 10 aspirants.
Notices issued to aspirants
As part of the ongoing probe, the CBI has issued notices to 150 aspirants, asking them to appear before the agency in phases. Investigators are collecting detailed inputs from the candidates, which are expected to shape the future course of the investigation. According to sources, many of those summoned are suspected to have been linked to the alleged ‘deal’ under scrutiny.
