During the operation, officers seized 24Kg of ganja, four mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 2,000. Police officials stated that the estimated value of the seized narcotics runs into lakhs of rupees. However, the exact valuation of cannabis has not been ascertained yet.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the ganja was sourced from Phulbani and was being transported to another state for illegal trade. Police authorities said the accused were paid substantial amounts for transporting the contraband.

Among the three women arrested, two are residents of Cuttack district, while another is from Tihidi locality in Bhadrak. Police also confirmed that they managed to apprehend one of the key individuals involved in the smuggling operation. Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network.

“Outside the railway station, three women were holding three trolley bags, and a gentleman was with them. When we apprehended those four individuals and detained them, we later discovered that they possessed a large quantity of prohibited ganja,” Bhadrak Town Police Station IIC, Prabhansu Mishra, said.

“We seized nearly 24 kilos of ganja from them. They were planning to transport these items to Chennai by train, and each lady would have received Rs 5000 (as remuneration) for the consignment. They ordered these items from the Phulbani area and were smuggling them to Chennai. Who else is involved in this racket is currently under our probe,” the cop added.
