Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in exchange for submitting a case diary before a court.
According to official Vigilance sources, Hansdah was the investigating officer in a case earlier registered at Dasmantpur police station. The accused in that case had been lodged in judicial custody, and the court had directed the investigating officer to place the case diary before it.
To submit the case diary and facilitate the bail process, Hansdah allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from a relative of the accused. The relative, instead of paying the money, approached Odisha Vigilance and lodged a complaint regarding the demand.
Vigilance Lays Trap, Recovers Tainted Money
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team from Jeypore laid a trap on Wednesday. Hansdah was caught inside the Dasmantpur police station premises while allegedly receiving the bribe amount from the complainant.
The entire tainted bribe money of Rs 20,000 was recovered from her possession and seized on the spot. Vigilance officials confirmed that the acceptance of the money was verified immediately after the trap.
Searches Underway From DA Angle
Following the arrest, Vigilance teams began a detailed verification inside the Dasmantpur police station. Simultaneous searches were also launched at two locations linked to Hansdah to examine her financial records and assets from a disproportionate assets angle.
Sources said the searches were part of standard follow-up procedures after a trap case and were continuing at the time of filing this report.
