Owing to the seriousness of injuries, the minor was subsequently shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further medical care, where his condition remains critical.

The child’s father has stated that if the doctors are unable to successfully reattach the two injured fingers, there is a possibility they may have to be amputated as well.

Local mechanics had initially tried to free the boy’s trapped hand but failed. Subsequently, the Digapahandi fire services team reached the spot and carefully rescued the child, who was bleeding heavily at the time of rescue.

“A finger has got severed, and nothing could be done to save it. Attempts are being made to attach two more fingers. If those cannot be joined with the hand, it is likely that those would be amputated. Doctors treating him in Berhampur hospital (MKCGMCH) neglected the child. However, we have now admitted him to AIIMS,” the minor’s father said.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures and child safety at workplaces.
