Odisha on Monday observed the 150th anniversary of the iconic patriotic song Vande Mataram with a mass rendition across educational institutions throughout the state. At exactly 11 am, students, teachers, and staff of schools, colleges, and universities collectively sang the song as part of the commemorative programme.
The statewide event was organised in accordance with directions issued by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department. Official instructions had been circulated to all district collectors to ensure the programme was conducted simultaneously and in an orderly manner across Odisha.
Active Participation at Fakir Mohan Junior College
At Fakir Mohan Junior College in Balasore, students and faculty members participated enthusiastically in the programme. The institution organised various activities, including quizzes and competitions, to mark the occasion.
A student said that after the rendition of Vande Mataram, participants took an oath to promote Swadeshi values and preserve India’s rich art and cultural heritage. Another student said the pledge taken during the programme would inspire them to pass on these values to future generations.
Faculty Emphasises Role of Youth
A faculty member of the college said more than 300 students, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, took part in the event. “After singing Vande Mataram, we took a collective pledge. Observing this programme on National Youth Day highlights the role of young people in building a stronger and more inclusive India,” the faculty member said.
Programme Conducted Smoothly Across State
The programme was conducted peacefully and in adherence to official guidelines. Reports from educational institutions across the state indicated enthusiastic participation by students and staff.
The statewide mass rendition aimed to foster cultural awareness, national pride, and a sense of collective identity among students, while commemorating a significant milestone in India’s national and cultural history.
