Rourkela Police arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly cheating more than 100 people by promising government jobs in the city and other parts of Odisha.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Sahu, who was apprehended from Jeypore in Koraput district, officials said.
According to police, the accused targeted unemployed youths by luring them with assurances of government jobs and collected large sums of money from them. Preliminary investigation revealed that Sahu allegedly duped job aspirants of nearly Rs 40 lakh.
During the arrest, police recovered a large number of forged documents, including fake appointment letters, from the possession of the accused. Officials said the documents were used to gain the confidence of job seekers and make the fraud appear genuine.
Fake appointment letters for Indian Railways recruitment were also recovered from Sahu’s possession.
Police further stated that the accused is suspected of having carried out similar frauds across several districts of Odisha. Investigations are underway to identify more victims and ascertain the full extent of the scam.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress, police added.

“Besides Sahu, those who are involved in the cheating will be arrested; necessary action will be taken against all. The accused has duped Rs 39.2 lakh from job seekers. We were informed that Sahu was residing in Chend area and collecting resumes from job seekers. Acting on the tip-off, we raided his house and many fake documents were recovered,” informed Panposh SDPO Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra.
