Following an FIR filed at the local police station, the accused was arrested and produced before court. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.

Police said the accused exploited the woman’s trust by offering a fake job opportunity and collected the money over a period of time. After the victim realised the offer was a scam and no job materialised, she approached law enforcement seeking justice.

Authorities have warned the public to remain cautious against such fraudulent job rackets and report any suspicious activities immediately.

However, no comments were received from police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a fraudster named Naresh Barik alias Butu was arrested on September 16, allegedly for cheating a youth of Rs 18 lakh on the pretext of providing him a government job.

The accused fraudster was taken into custody from his residence in Pragati Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, Barik had introduced himself variously as an AGM at NALCO and a Vice-President at Reliance Group of industries to win the trust of job aspirants. In 2021, he had taken Rs 18 lakh from Sarbeswar Samal, promising him a position at NALCO.

To make the job offer seem genuine, the accused man had provided fake documents such as an appointment letter, a joining letter, and even a gate pass. Once the victim realised he had been conned, he had approached Badagada Police Station and lodged an FIR.
