Odisha government notifies 24 new NACs, five municipalities Photograph: (OTV)
In a significant step towards strengthening urban governance and decentralised administration, the Odisha government has issued an official notification declaring 24 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) across 14 districts of the state. In a separate notification, the government has also announced the creation of five new municipalities in three districts.
According to the notification, the 24 newly declared NACs include Pallahara in Angul district, Simulia in Balasore district, and Sohela in Bargarh district. In Bhadrak district, Tihidi and Dhusuri have been notified as NACs. Cuttack district will have three new NACs- Salepur, Badamba and Narsinghpur. Gandiya in Dhenkanal district has also been included in the list.
In the Ganjam district, Jagannath Prasad and Patrapur have been notified as new NACs, while Narla and Jayapatna in Kalahandi district will also come under NAC administration. Tangi in Khordha district and Borigumma in Koraput district have similarly been declared NACs.
Mayurbhanj district has the highest number of new NACs, with Betanati, Bangiriposi, Chitrada, Kaptipada and Rasagobindapur included in the list. Besides, Bisamkatak in Rayagada district, Bamra and Rengali in Sambalpur district, and Biramaharajpur in Subarnapur district have also been notified as new NACs.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has issued a separate notification declaring Boudhgarh in Boudh district as a municipality. In Ganjam district, Bhanjanagar, Kabisuryanagar and Polasara have been upgraded to municipal status. Karanjia in the Mayurbhanj district has also been declared a municipality.

Officials said the move is aimed at improving civic amenities, strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring better delivery of municipal services in the newly notified areas. The notifications are expected to pave the way for planned urban development and enhanced administrative efficiency across the state.
