In a tragic incident, a farmer was reportedly burnt to death while burning paddy stubble in a field at Sunamuhin village under Pipili police station limits in Puri district on Sunday. The charred body of the farmer was later recovered from the agricultural land, sending shockwaves in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Gajendra Swain, a resident of the village. According to preliminary information, the mishap occurred when Gajendra had gone to his field after harvesting the paddy crop. He was reportedly burning the remaining stubble, a common practice adopted by farmers to clear fields for the next cultivation cycle.

Sources said that during the process, the fire suddenly went out of control due to unknown reasons. It is suspected that strong flames and thick smoke engulfed the farmer, leaving him trapped in the burning field. With no immediate help available, Gajendra was unable to escape the fire, leading to his death on the spot.

As the paddy harvest in nearby fields was almost complete, no other farmers were reportedly present in the area at the time of the incident. The absence of people nearby delayed rescue efforts, making it impossible to save his life.

The incident has left the entire village in a state of shock and grief. Soon after the news spread, a large number of local residents gathered at the spot to mourn the untimely death of the farmer and extend support to the bereaved family.

Upon receiving information, Pipili police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
