Odia comedian and YouTuber Ashis Kumar Das, popularly known as Mr Gulua, has raised serious allegations of threat to life and extortion, claiming that unknown persons have been demanding a large sum of money and warning him of violent consequences if the demand is not met.
The allegations were made public through a video posted by him on social media on Thursday morning, in which he appeared visibly emotional and revealed that he is currently “in hiding” and “may or may not be alive tomorrow.”
Extortion Demand And Threats Detailed In Video
In the video message, Mr Gulua alleged that he was initially asked to pay Rs 1 crore, which was later reduced to Rs 50 lakh. He claimed the threats included warnings of defamation on social media, false criminal cases, and physical assault that could permanently affect his ability to perform.
“I have received threats demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore, failing which I will be defamed on social media. After further talks, that amount was reduced to Rs 50 lakhs,” Gulua said. He further alleged that the callers threatened to have him jailed under fabricated cases if he refused to pay.
The comedian also spoke about the psychological toll of the threats, stating that he has been under severe mental stress for the past several days due to repeated intimidation.
Complaint At Balianta Police Station
Gulua confirmed that he approached the Balianta police station in Bhubaneswar to lodge a complaint regarding the alleged threats and extortion. However, he expressed fear about pursuing the matter further, claiming that those threatening him had links extending up to the police station.
“I do not think that I can approach the police. Fearing for my life, I have now fled my area to someplace safe,” he said in the video, adding that he believes he is being followed.
Appeal To Government And Media
Appealing directly to the government and the media, Gulua urged authorities to take note of his situation and provide protection. He stated that he and his associates have been threatened multiple times and that he is currently unable to approach the court due to safety concerns.
“Please do not take this video lightly. I may or may not be alive tomorrow,” Gulua said, adding that he has recorded another video in which he has named the person allegedly threatening him, to be considered if any harm comes to him.
