The 70th State Police Duty Meet commenced at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxi Bazaar, Cuttack, Odisha on Thursday. The meet brought together police personnel and trained dogs from across the state.
The event, which will continue till October 19, features a range of professional competitions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and modern policing skills.
A total of 273 police personnel, 43 dogs, and 43 handlers from 34 police districts and establishments are taking part in the meet. The participating dog breeds include Mudhol Hound, Belgian Malinois, Doberman, and Labrador.
Among the dogs, the indigenous ‘Mudhol Hound’ has emerged as the main attraction of the event for its agility, sharpness, and strong sense of smell.
DGP YB Khurania said, “The 70th State Police Duty Meet has been inaugurated with participation from teams across different districts. The competition will continue for the next three days, covering various categories. Top performers from this event will be selected to form the state team for the All-India Police Duty Meet.”
Eight Mudhol Hounds from Karnataka have been included in the K-9 squad, assisting the police in tracking criminals, detecting explosives, and identifying narcotic substances.

DSP, K-9 Squad, Nigamananda Baral said, “Trained dogs, along with pups, are 59 in number and have participated in this competition. We had trained the three Mudhol Hounds in the tracking division during the first session at the National Training Centre for Dogs, ITBP, Haryana. These dogs have participated in this competition for the first time.”
Focus on Modern Crime Control and Skill Development
The event’s objective is to improve the professional competence of police personnel and familiarise them with advanced methods of crime prevention and investigation. It also aims to strengthen expertise in forensics, cybercrime, and technical surveillance.
