A missing Class 10 student, identified as Sumit Kumar Mahapatra from Dhenkanal district, was safely rescued on Sunday from Salepur locality in Cuttack, nearly 15 days after he went missing.

Sumit had disappeared from his hostel at Ankarantipur under Sadar police limits on the 24th of last month. He was a student of Adarsha Vidyalaya, Ankarantipur. It is said that he had left the hostel due to mental distress. He travelled to Cuttack in a private vehicle and took shelter at a local resident’s house in Salepur.
Sumit’s parents later received phone calls from the host family after learning about his disappearance through social media updates. The missing student shared his situation with them. Acting on this information, Salepur police safely brought him back.
After over two weeks of anxious days, Sumit’s family expressed relief and happiness upon his safe return. Authorities are providing necessary support to ensure his well-being.
“With your (media’s) help and police cooperation, we got back our child (Sumit). I express my gratitude to you all. Salepur police rescued the child. After being informed, we went there and brought him back home,” Sumit’s father, Lulu Mahapatra, said.
“We got information from a reliable source that the child was present in Salepur. A police team from Dhenkanal was sent to Salepur. With the help of local police, the male child was rescued. The child has been rescued safely,” Sadar Police Station IIC, Priyabrata Das, stated.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a 16-year-old boy from Chandrasekharpur locality of Bhubaneswar had gone missing, sparking concern among his family and neighbours.
The boy had left home on September 4 to attend his karate class, but did not return. When he failed to come back, his anxious mother had lodged a missing person complaint at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station the same evening.
