A minor girl was allegedly raped in Bhubaneswar by the landlord of the house where her family was staying, according to a complaint filed at the Mahila Police station. The incident took place on Thursday. The survivor, who sustained serious injuries and trauma, has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred when the girl’s family members were not at home. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused landlord allegedly committed the crime inside the residence. Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused within a short time.
A member of the Odisha State Commission for Women visited the survivor in the hospital and later met her family. The statements of the girl and her family members were recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry. Police officials have also initiated medical and forensic examinations to verify the allegations.
“The condition of the survivor is stable now. She was assaulted inside the house when the parents were not at home. Necessary action will be taken against the culprit and the survivor will get the justice,” Urmila Mohapatra, member of the CWC, Odisha, said.
“I am visiting the Mahila Police Station and will hold discussion with the IIC. The accused has been arrested swiftly,” she added.

Meanwhile, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of women in the state capital of Bhubaneswar and the need for stronger preventive measures. Meanwhile, the accused remains in police custody and will be produced before the Court.
