Light winter conditions have begun to be felt in interior regions such as Koraput, Sundargarh, and Kandhamal. The Meteorological Centre stated that dry and cold winds entering the state from the north-west have led to a 2 to 3-degree Celsius drop in both day and night temperatures across several districts. In Daringbadi, Phulbani, and Jharsuguda, temperatures have fallen below 15 degrees Celsius.

Further Temperature Dip Predicted

As per the Meteorological Centre's forecast, mercury may fall by another 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two to three days. However, there will not be a continuous cold wave due to the influence of western winds this year. Officials said that while the chill is slightly more intense than last year, the winter duration will be shorter.

Locals React to Sudden Chill

As per reports, people gathered in considerable numbers around tea stalls even at 8 a.m. on Monday. Locals said the winter started about 20 days late due to continuous rainfall and low pressure.

One resident from Koida said, “We are all waking up late as the cold suddenly came and temperatures dropped all of a sudden.”
