Cold weather sets in Odisha Photograph: (OTV)
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual fall in minimum temperatures across Odisha over the next few days, with the state capital Bhubaneswar expected to record lows of around 17°C and Cuttack likely to touch 16°C by mid-next week.
The weather department has attributed the temperature decline to clear skies and prevailing dry north-easterly winds, signalling the seasonal transition toward winter conditions.
Temperatures To Fall Across State
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar, the minimum (night) temperature is very likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C during the next 2 to 3 days, with no major changes expected thereafter. The forecast indicates that cooler nights will prevail across both interior and coastal Odisha through November 15.
The IMD observed that dry weather continues across the state, with no significant synoptic system influencing Odisha’s skies. Further, on Saturday night, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains was recorded at 12.5°C in Phulbani, while the highest maximum temperature of 34°C was registered in Nayagarh.
At 8:30 am on November 8, Bhubaneswar reported a maximum temperature of 32.3°C, a minimum of 18.9°C. IMD data also show that the minimum temperature has appreciably fallen by about 2°C to 3°C in a few parts of interior Odisha, particularly in Sundargarh and Kalahandi, where shallow fog was reported in the early morning hours.
Below-Normal Temperatures In Interior Regions
The IMD bulletin further highlighted that night temperatures in north interior Odisha were appreciably below normal by around 4°C, while several other districts recorded temperatures 1–2°C below normal.
In contrast, a few pockets in southern Odisha experienced temperatures 1–2°C above normal due to residual humidity. However, overall, the state has entered a distinctly cooler phase, especially in the interior belts where temperatures have dipped faster than in the coastal plains.
Bhubaneswar And Cuttack Forecast
For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the IMD forecast mentions fog or mist in the early morning followed by mainly clear skies later in the day. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 32°C, while the minimum temperature may gradually dip to 17°C by midweek.
In Cuttack, the pattern is similar, with morning fog, clear afternoons, and an expected night temperature of around 16°C. The cooler spell is expected to bring relief after the prolonged humid conditions experienced during the retreating monsoon phase.
As of Saturday, Odisha remains under clear skies, low humidity, and light winds, marking a stable shift from post-monsoon humidity to the first spell of the winter chill.
