Marriage negotiation ends in horror: Youth attacks prospective bride in Kendrapara

In a shocking and brutal incident, a young woman was critically injured after a youth allegedly slit her throat during a marriage proposal visit at Kujipur village under Rajkanika police limits in Kendrapara district on Saturday.

According to police sources, the families of both the youth and the woman had agreed to their marriage, which was planned for next month. 

The youth, accompanied by his mother, went to the woman’s house to formally see her and finalize the arrangements on Saturday. Initially, both families were engaged in cordial discussions, and the young man and woman were allowed to speak privately.

However, during their conversation, an argument reportedly broke out between the two over an undisclosed matter. The situation quickly escalated, and the youth allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and slit the woman’s throat in a sudden fit of rage. The victim screamed for help, and her family members rushed to the room, finding her lying in a pool of blood, sources added.

She was immediately rescued and taken to the Rajkanika Community Health Centre, where doctors described her condition as critical. Later, she was referred to a higher medical centre for better treatment.

Meanwhile, local villagers managed to overpower the accused and handed him over to the police. The Rajkanika police have arrested the youth and registered a case. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the altercation that led to the horrific attack.
